Buffalo Business First reports an increase in bankruptcy filings in Western New York:
In September, the number of bankruptcy cases totaled 264 in the eight-county region – up 13.8 percent from the same month last year, according to new data from the U.S. Bankruptcy Court Western District of New York. It is the third month in a row that the number of cases outpaced year-ago numbers.
Year to date, local bankruptcies are up 7 percent, despite double-digit decreases in four of the eight counties. Erie County, the largest county by population, leads the pack with a 15 percent uptick.
